Chennai : The Gandhi World Foundation organised a special award ceremony on the occasion of 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi at MSSRF. The Life Time Achievement Award of Excellence was conferred upon Prof M S Swaminathan for his remarkable contributions in the field of agriculture. Prof Swaminathan has been deeply influenced by Gandhiji in his life and work on food security and often quotes his thought “To the hungry, God is bread.”
During the ‘Gandhi150’ – International Peace Festival at Chennai, two more awardees. Hon. Thiru M.M. Rajendran, Former Governor of Orissa for excellent administrative service and Dr Moe Kyaw Aung, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar for India-Myanmar relations.
The ceremony was felicitated by Hon. Justice Thiru. Rajeswaran, former Judge at the Madras High Court, Mr M Murali, Managing Director of Krishna Sweets as guest of honour and Mr V Nandakumar IRS, Deputy Income Tax Commissioner as a special guest. A number of Gandhians and scholars attended the event.
