Inauguration Of Embryo Biotechnology Laboratory At Nagpur Veterinary College…

Nagpur : “Embryo Biotechnology Laboratory” established at Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur under Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of Union Minister Shri. Nitin Gadkari recently. Nagpur State Cabinet Minister of Animal Husbandry Shri.. Sunil Kedar, Vice-chancellor of MAFSU Col. Dr. (Prof) A. M. Paturkar along with Executive Council Members of MAFSU Shri. Sudhir Dive, Shri. Tapeshwar Vaidya and Dr. Sudhir Duddalwar were prominently present on the occasion.

Rashtriya Gokul Mission, Govt. of India, New Delhi funded Rs. 2.98 crores for the lab under the project “Strengthening of Embryo Transfer Technology/In-vitro Fertilization Centre”. The grant consists of funds for lab contribution, equipments & consumables.

It is a modern technology, under this the embryo transfer will be done in local & other indigenous cows. In this technique the ovum will be collected from selected high milk yielding cows which will be fertilize through high quality male semen in laboratory. The embryos developed in the laboratory will be transplanted in the cows with low milk yield. Due to this such cows will produce calves with high milk yield capacity in comparatively less period of time.

The embryos developed in the lab will be made available to the livestock farmers. The availability of embryos will be available for farmers on online portal of “Epashuhaat” so that it will become convenient for interested farmers to contact the lab for embryos directly.

The scientists associated with the lab will extend the benefit of technology to the Livestock Development Officers of state government working in the field as well as to the farmers through trainings. The embryo transplant technology will help to improve the productivity of indigenous cattle and it will benefit the large number of farmers of Vidarbha and Maharashtra state that are depend on livestock farming for their livelihood.
